In brief

A curly fringe brings the front of the hair toward the forehead while allowing the curl pattern to remain visible. It can be short and open or fuller with more coverage. The important measurement is where the curls sit in your normal finished style.

A stretched strand does not show the full picture. Before cutting, discuss the difference between the hair’s wet length and the position you want when it dries.

Choose coverage rather than one exact line

Decide whether you want the fringe above the eyebrows, near them or swept away from the eyes. Curls may rest at slightly different points, so a natural outline can look different from a uniformly straight fringe.

At the chair

Bring a reference with a reasonably similar curl size and density. A loose wave and a tighter curl may need very different lengths to create similar forehead coverage.

Keep enough support behind the front

The fringe connects to the rest of the top. Removing too much length or weight immediately behind it can leave the front isolated, while too much fullness can push it into a shape you did not expect.

Ask your barber how the front and crown will work together. The goal is a coherent haircut rather than an attractive fringe attached to a top that becomes difficult to manage.

Choose sides that support your preferred outline

Closer sides can emphasize the curls at the front. Fuller sides create a softer overall frame. You can keep a curly fringe with either approach, so decide how much contrast you actually want.

Pay attention to the area above the temples. This connection can make the top look wider, narrower or more rounded without changing the fringe’s length.

Explain your ordinary styling routine

Tell your barber whether you air-dry, use a diffuser or apply a curl product. A cut judged only after a finish you never use at home may not behave as expected the next morning.

Ask to see the amount and placement of product used. Excessive handling while the hair settles can change the separation, so a simple repeatable routine may be more useful than adding several new products.

Leave room for a conservative first cut

If you are trying a fringe for the first time, discuss starting slightly longer and checking its dry position. It is easier to shorten an agreed section than to reverse an over-shortened front.

Book a City Barbers haircut in Salt Lake City and bring your curl routine into the consultation. The finished fringe should work with the pattern you actually wear.
